WWF Uganda Country Office (UCO), is seeking to recruit a NATIONAL PROJECT MANAGER (NPM) for the UNDP funded Project 'Strengthening Sustainable Environment and Natural Resource Management, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Uganda

WWF is one of the world's largest independent and experienced conservation organizations operating in over 100 countries in the world. 

WWF Uganda Country Office is the appointed Implementing Partner for the three year
UNDP Country Office (Uganda) funded project "Strengthening Sustainable Environment and Natural Resource Management, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Uganda ". 

The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Responsible Partners drawn from central and local government institutions, civil society and tertiary academic institutions. 

The Project Management Unit (PMU) will temporarily be based in Kampala during the inception period where after it will be relocated to the selected field based operational site.

WWF UCO is seeking to recruit a hands on experienced National Project Manager to direct , oversee and monitor the implementation of this project for the next three years.

Major Functions:

  • Reporting to the Country Office Conservation Manager, the National Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day managerial and administrative functions of the project 
  • The NPM is responsible to WWF for the timely and accurate delivery of project technical and financial outputs; reporting, monitoring and evaluation of progress; planning budgeting and execution of adaptive management strategies. 
  • In addition, the NPM will be focal point to supervise, coordinate and maintain communication and quality delivery from all partners.
  • The NPM will work closely with the Ministry of Water and Environment (Executing Agency of the project), in organizing project board meetings , formation and engagement of the technical advisory group and liaising, building synergies and complementarities among sister projects implemented by WWF and other agencies in the country.

Job requirement
Required Qualifications
1. Education: 
Masters degree or equivalent in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or Environmental Management 

2. Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years work experience in the management of projects in the field of natural resources management and Sustainable development;
  • Demonstrable experience in working with partners or multi-stakeholders group at all levels, from Government Ministries, Local Governments down to communities;
  • Clear understanding of natural resource management policies and local government political structures;
  • Previous work experience in the Afro-montane forest ecosystem of the Albertine Rift is an advantage;

3. Skills and abilities:

  • Proven leadership and team building and management skills;
  • A working knowledge of financial management, especially at the project level;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to network, develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, internally and with local communities, local governments and CSOs;
  • Adaptability and flexibility; able to take initiatives and prioritise among competing demands;
  • Must be computer literate; familiarity with GIS applications is desirably.
  • Must have the ability to lead a multi-cultural team and an interest in capacity building.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively throughout the project area to visit sites where project-assisted activities are taking place.
  • Strong skills in project planning, proposal writing, financing, management, implementation, and evaluation, and experience working with donors;
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills;
  • Proven & demonstrated trait of high integrity, honesty,
  • accountability and transparency in managing public resources;
