Investment Officer Job Vacancy in Uganda

1. BACKGROUND

  • The Agribusiness Initiative (aBi) Trust is an institution set up by the governments of Uganda and Denmark to support agribusiness initiatives in the country. In particular it is to support the private sector to increase their contribution to the agricultural sector by increasing productivity and competitiveness leading to poverty reduction through economic growth, wealth, and employment creation.
  • The vision of aBi Trust is of "competitive private sector led agriculture in Uganda" with the mission to "promote private sector driven agribusiness development to enhance wealth creation in the country".
  • The aBi Trust achieves its mission and vision through interrelated sub-components. The subcomponents are:
  • Value Chain Development leading to improved performance of value chain actors.
  • Financial Services development leading to expansion of financial services by supporting agribusiness in order to increased availability and use of financial services.
  • Trade-related Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS) leading to increased trade opportunities.
  • Gender for Growth leading to gender equality integration and mainstreaming in all aBi activities.
  • aBi Trust implements its interventions through partners. 

2. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • The Investment Officer (10) will be responsible for appraisal of the Financial Institutions that apply for lines of credit and also the guarantees from the Trust. He/She will monitor the performance of the Financial Institutions that will have received funding from the Trust. He/ She will be responsible for maintaining a high quality portfolio.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Market and appraise potential Financial Institutions' proposal for inclusion in the Guarantee scheme
  • Appraise guarantee cases as submitted by partner Financial Institutions for the Trust's approval
  • Support appraisal of lines of credit process
  • Monitor Financial Institutions closely on product utilization, income payments, maturing repayments and beneficiaries are tracked .
  • Monitor outstanding guarantees, lines of credit and any other investments and propose remedial action where necessary 
  • Maintain records, files pertaining to the guarantee scheme and investments and propose remedial action where necessary 
  • Support Operations/Monitoring and Evaluation Manager in assembling relevant reports to Management, Board of Trustees and other development partners

Job requirement
4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting , Development studies, Finance, Economics
  • Relevant courses in Financial or Credit Analysis
  • Financial management and accounting skills and knowledge
  • 5 years' experience working as an investment officer or credit analyst in a financial institution will be and added advantage.
